The appellant, John Tregalles, is 62 years old. On 22 September 2008, after a trial at Bolton Crown Court before His Honour Judge William Morris and a jury, he was convicted of a total of 16 offences, comprising one count of buggery, three of rape, two of indecent assault by aiding and abetting, four of indecent assault on a male, two of indecency with a child, and four of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. He was acquitted on a number of other counts. The jury failed to reach verdicts on two counts of buggery, two of rape and six of aiding and abetting rape: those counts were ordered to lie on the file. 2.
